Adham Faramawy exhibiting 'BREAK THE BINARIES' season in 2023. Adham’s work explores issues of touch, embodiment and identity using special effects drawn from advertising to evoke desire for people, things and experiences. Their work spans moving image, sculptural installation and print. In 'Skin Flick (Invasive Species)' Adham portrays bodies absorbing and interacting with chemicals such as beauty products, drugs, supplements and organic matter. The artist talks about their relationship with self-image, sexuality and gender over slick and slimy imagery, invoking and investigating ideas of gender fluidity. Adham's work was commissioned for GENDERS: Shaping and Breaking the Binary, at Science Gallery London at King’s College London. 'Skin Flick' will travel to Science Gallery Melbourne and be presented during BREAK THE BINARIES, supported by the UK/Australia Season Patrons Board, the British Council and the Australian Government as part of the UK/Australia Season ‘Who are we now?’.
